Brainspotting Therapy
Brainspotting is a trauma-focused therapy that helps access and process experiences stored deep within the brain and nervous system. It is based on the understanding that where we look can influence how we access and process emotional and physiological experiences.
Traumatic experiences are not always stored as clear memories or thoughts. Often, they remain held in the body and nervous system, contributing to symptoms such as anxiety, hypervigilance, emotional numbness, chronic stress, panic, intrusive memories, relationship difficulties, or a persistent sense of being “stuck.” Brainspotting works by identifying specific eye positions, known as brainspots, that connect to these deeper neural networks and allow the brain’s natural healing processes to engage.
Unlike some approaches that focus primarily on talking through experiences, Brainspotting emphasizes processing at a deeper neurobiological level. Clients are not required to share every detail of their experiences for meaningful therapeutic work to occur. The process is guided by the client’s nervous system and unfolds at a pace that supports safety and regulation.
Brainspotting is commonly used to address PTSD, operational stress injuries, anxiety, depression, complex trauma, developmental trauma, grief, performance issues, and stress-related concerns. Many Veterans, first responders, and individuals who have experienced overwhelming life events find Brainspotting helpful when traditional approaches have provided insight but have not fully resolved the underlying emotional impact of trauma.
At our clinic, Brainspotting is integrated within a comprehensive treatment approach tailored to each individual’s needs, helping clients move toward greater regulation, resilience, and lasting change.
